Sign Up for Weibo/SINA

Hello there.. I know most of you would want to sign up in SINA or most commonly know as weibo because a lot of good stuff are there.. a new found HenWook Shipper CT wanted me to give this tutorial so I decided to make one for her and to you guys who would want to explore SINA.

My first tip for you guys is go and use Google chrome with built in translations so that you can partly understand what the people are talking there^^

And I’ll be doing this tutorial with screencaps~~ to help you go through it with ease~

Step 1: go to the SINA website

Step 2: once you’ve clicked the green button you will be redirected to this page

*enter your email address and desired password plus the verification code then click the green button to continue.

*You can use any email address here, yahoo and gmail works as long as you can open the email address that you’ve entered since you’ll be asked to confirm it

*For the location, what you do is find this 海外 (overseas)  the next field actually auto detects your country^^

Step 3: You will be prompted that the email address has been registered and you need to confirm it. Click the green button

Chie (23)

Step 4: You will be redirected to your email provider. Click on the SINA message sent to your inbox and click the link on your email

Chie (29)

Step 5: You will be redirected to SINA’s page where you are needed to follow at least one person.. in the pic I followed Henry’s official weibo

Step 6: Optional step, you can search for friends using their email address or via school or company

Step 7: You will be redirected to your Weibo account and start microblogging^^

>>

To Log in is simple too..

Chie (21)a

Just enter your email and password than click the button just below it^^

Microblogging is just like twitter where you can type words in the box and click the button below it to post your microblog.

Some NOTES:

~>>  I tried signing up for the 3rd time and just like before I had no problems with it. For some countries, i am not sure if your or SINA’s IP is restricted. In the Philippines, you can easily sign up with no worries.

~>> Try using gmail as it is much more convenient than other email provider. It works for me just fine.

~>> and I am not an expert on Weibo.. and since I was able to sign up with no problems, I am not sure how to address with those who had problems signing up.

    Chie T__T.

I can’t even make an account on weibo at all. The verification code keep asking me to retype the password a lot of time even when i type in the correct code with both case sensitive.

What did i do wrong? I did everything you said and can’t even get to step 3 *sigh*.

    • hmmm.. try refreshing the page. or you may have pressed the enter key more than once.

before you try to pres enter, make sure that the page has loaded properly. there are times when we refresh the page the verification code has not yet fully loaded and you may have entered a different code which may have caused the error

    Hi ^^
Thanks for making the tutorial! 🙂

Can I ask something? Do you know how to change your log in e-mail address once you have registered the account?

I set up my account some time ago and used my school mail, but I’m not in school anymore and I don’t know how much longer that address will be in function >.<

    May 31, 2011 at 2:43 pm

    • Hello there.. well to change your email address..
first, click the 帐号设置 link which is found on the top most right corner of the page, the second one from the right^^

You will be redirected to another page. just scroll down and you will find your email address. to change it, click the chinese character (in blue) beside your email address and a pop up will show. type your new email and click the left button.

A verification link will be sent to your new email, click it and you’re good to go.

If you have problems understanding this i could do a post with screen caps^^

      • suzy

        I changed the address according to your instructions, but the address used to log in remains the same… Maybe it doesn’t actually matter? I mean if the (old) address is only used as a name for log in? ^^;

Anyways, thanks so much for your answer! ^o^

HI.. thanks for the guidelines.. i have encountered the same problem as CT. tried refreshing the pages and press “enter” more than once.. and it only changes the code every enter i pressed.. ive even tried closing the windows and re-open weibo again but it is still the same ): do u have any other ways to solve this problem.. thank you (:

    July 10, 2011 at 1:01 am

    • Hello there. i think you don’t need to press the enter more than once, when you press enter more than once, the tendency of the browser is to reload due to wrong verification code input.

have you tried sing a different browser?
or perhaps you have connection problems..

I don’t really understand chinese so that’s all i can think of as the problem.

Another time, the code work and it send the verification email and when I click on the verification link 5 minutes after, it says it already pass 48 hours when it hasn’t even. I’m really confused!

Hi. Great Post. Is there a link to your next tutorial ” Next tutorial is how to post status, pictures, videos and links to your weibo and how to change bg, reply to microblogs and more^^..”?

I really wanted to find out how to link to my weibo – Currently if I send my weibo url to anyone they have to log into weibo to see my posts. Thanks

    May 19, 2012 at 7:52 pm

    • i never get to do that~ ahahah maybe this time around i can do that tutorial..

though i think it’s still impossible to view a weibo without logging in..it’s in the platform of the microblogging^^

the tutorial for posting links what i mean is posting links to your own weibo and not exporting to other sites~

Weibo ask for Passport number in sign up page (http://www.weibo.com/signup/signup.php?ps=u3&lang=zh-tw). But when I wrote my Passport number, Weibo said 請輸入正確的護照號碼 (Please enter the correct passport number). Could you help to explain about this please?

    August 17, 2012 at 2:17 pm

    • lilac

I could sign up already. I wrote my ID instead of Passport number.

  17. I’m from Indonesia, can I create a weibo account ?
so difficult.. I open weibo.com and about to sign up, I can choose the language actually at right below of the page, I choose ‘ english ‘ and the page turn to english, so it make me easier to do the sign up, but when I click ‘ sign up ‘ it take so so so long loading.. and I try in chinese language, yet it said ‘ 抱歉,您注册次数过于频繁,建议您休息一会儿再试!’
what does it mean ? 🙂

I’m abt of depressed for signing up, why so difficult one.

    August 30, 2012 at 9:04 pm

    • Hey there.. the trans of the Chinese phrase you sent is
Sorry, you register too often, it is recommended that you take a break and try again

well as far as i know you can register even if you are not from China..
i do not have the option to change the language into English (well probably my browser is failing me)
Try clearing your cache (delete your browsing history) and reload the page.
I didn’t encounter much problem when i signed up though that was a year ago and i don’t know if the process is still the same~

      September 1, 2012 at 4:40 pm

  18. Hi, I really need your help here. I have tried to sign up for Weibo a few times now but every time I click “Enter” I will see the button saying “Open Immediately” but nothing happens after that. I would just get stuck. I have tried both Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox to register and I am from Malaysia. Do help, thanks.

    September 8, 2012 at 6:33 pm

    • I think that pop up is a spam~ i haven’t encountered anything of such when i signed up.
Have you tried clearing your cache and running a scan on your computer?

      September 13, 2012 at 9:37 pm

      • Yes, I have tried to clear my cache, I’ve run scans on my computer and I’ve tried multiple browsers…sigh. 😦

        September 13, 2012 at 9:39 pm

      • Ok i’ve tried signing up again and it’s very easy for me.. and has no problems~ Maybe there are restrictions in your place such that the site is blocked or your IP is blocked
        though i am not sure
try signing up again >> http://www.weibo.com/signup/signup.php?ps=u3&lang=zh-cn

Hi.. weibo is asking me for phone verification..

I need to enter a phone number but weibo is only accepting numbers from Mainland China.

“The phone number for verification, mainland China does not support the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan regions and overseas phone numbers.”

It really frustrates me because I can’t use my weibo since I’m always directed to that phone verification page. 😦

I just register on weibo by the way.

    I’m from Philippines.

    January 19, 2013 at 8:33 pm

    • I didn’t experience any phone verification. Have you registered in weibo and you can’t log in or you can’t sign up at all?
I’m from the Philippines too and I haven’t had any problems signing up ~

hi, i did register via iphone and i am able to login sucessfully, but i cant login using web also without any verification email. Any idea why and how to login? Thanks

    October 17, 2013 at 10:58 am

    • Well I’m not much of an iOS user. Usually there should be a verification email sent to you. try using your email address and password. or try clicking the option forgot password or email so that they can send you your email or password.

I’ve tried signing up for about 2-3 times without hassle so i am not so sure about others failing to do so.

again i am not an expert in weibo nor chinese

      October 18, 2013 at 8:01 pm

  24. hello, how can i activate my gmail account for weibo? pls help me

    November 12, 2013 at 5:29 pm

    • Weibo should send a confirmation email to your gmail account to verify your email
